This site
is run by a husband-and-wife team, Paul and Nancy. We recently
went through the outrageously complicated process of planning
a wedding, only to discover upon returning from our honeymoon
that informing everyone of Nancy's name change would be a hassle
too. It took us a long time to come up with a list of places to
contact, and then find all the forms and procedures that applied.
There seem
to be plenty of online businesses that will charge you a fee for
either (1) gathering all the forms and sending them to you or
(2) taking down your information and filling out the forms for
you. These forms are available on the Internet for free! It’s
all a matter of tracking them down (which we’ve already
done, and we don’t mind sharing) and filling them out (which
you can quickly and easily do on your own). Why pay someone to
change your name for you—and entrust them with your personal
information—when you don’t have to?
We decided
it'd be nice to offer an alternative. Nancy, who's a freelance
web designer, set out to create an easy-to-use website. Paul,
who is an attorney, drafted the generic notice of name change
letter to cover all the places that don't offer an official form.
Together, we built the site that we wish was out there when we
were going through the name-changing process.
We hope that
you find NameThatBride.com helpful and useful; please include
a link to our site on your wedding website
or blog if you do, or help support us by buying
a T-shirt. We welcome your opinion, so always feel free to
drop us a line. And good luck with
your new marriage and name!
